Half-Term Reflection

1)  Have you learned anything new since beginning the year?  If so, what concepts have been new?  If not, have you improved in your understanding of these concepts?

2)  Does the instructor use a wide range of activities to both investigate topics and demonstrate knowledge?  What have been your favourite and least favourite activities?

3)  Do you feel challenged in this course?  If so, how are you being challenged?  If not, why do you think that is?  What improvements could be made in class to better challenge you or aid your understanding?

  1. Yes, I learned how to make tree diagrams, what a sample space is and many others. The concept of using tree diagrams and sample space to find out what the probability of the event or what your finding out.

I think that the amazing mr. Jobe has used a wide range of activities such as math game with work making us learn the things that we need to learn by using games mixed with problems helping us learn. My favourite activities has been the probability fair where we created our own game and found the probability of our game winning or losing.

I feel like there isn't much of a challenge on this course, I think that his teaching is fine all round but instead of normal problems he could add extensions to the work to give us a challenge. I think that this is what our teacher could do to improve our learning and understanding

  2. 1) I have learnt how to calculate probability since the start of the year.
    2) Yes, my favourite activity was the probability fair and my least favourite was snakes and ladders.
    3) I don't think I'm being challenged because I already know all the things that we are doing in algebra and all I am doing is practicing those skills. Maybe we could do different types of problems and more challenging problems too.

  3. 1) I have learned how to solve algebra equations algebraically and not just do it logically.
    2) Yes, my favourite activity is snakes and ladders because it does not only help me work on doing problems mathematically but it's also quite fun
    3) At times, I feel challenged, for example when the instructor gives us a challenging problem to do quickly in our books, however, at other times, I feel that some of the worksheets, could be a bit more challenging. I think some improvement in this class could be that we could start doing more things in groups so that we can hear everyone's opinion on a certain thing. Also, more snakes and ladders helps me a lot.

  4. I have learned lots of things new. The most exciting new concepts was having variables on both sides with at least three brackets each.

Mr Jobe uses a wide range of activities to teach us important things an learn at the same time of having fun.

I feel like I am ot being challenged because I understand the concepts and I feel comfortable learning with Mr Jobe. i think his teaching style is great.

  5. This year I have learned a lot in math class. I did not understand probability very much in the beginning of the year but i understand I quite well now. I really liked the probability fair and would like to do more similar activities. I also enjoyed the snakes and ladders games because the are more fun than just doing continuous worksheets. This year i have been more challenged in math class and like it a lot more than I did before.

  6. 1. I have learnt new concepts in probability and more complicated algebra equations and formulas. Such as the use of probability in the real world, for example the probability fair. in algebra I have learnt that no matter how hard the problem is there is always a right answer.

    2. Yes I think that Mr. Jobe does use quite a variety of activities such as the snakes and ladders games and the challenge questions.

    3. I think I do feel challenged in this class because some of the challenge problems are quite difficult and Mr. Jobe helps with them.

  7. 1) I have learned new things the beginning of the year! I have learned how to calculate the probability of an event, how to draw a tree diagram, and how to make word problems into algebraic equations.

    2) Yes, Mr Jobe does quite a lot of different activities to help us learn. I liked all the of activities we did.

    3) Yes I do feel challenged by the algebra extension problems, because some of them really are challenging. I also felt challenged by drawing tree diagrams for more complex probability problems, but now I have gotten the hang of it. I can't think of any improvements to make to this class!

  8. 1) I have learned how to expand brackets better and how to calculate probability. The whole topic of probability was a new topic that I have never done. I think it was interesting and fun working with my group.

    2) Yes. My favourite activities are working in groups and playing games in pairs. I don't have a least favourite activity.

    3) Sometimes I am challenged and sometimes not so much. I am being challenged by the expansions and sometimes the classwork (especially with algebra). I think I need to practice more simplifying, expanding and collecting like terms.

  9. 1) I have learn't a lot more about algebra and all of the units we have done, and this has helped me a lot. I have begun to think in different ways like more using more algebra in everyday situations. I have improved a lot of these concepts in many different ways.
    2) Yes, I really like how Mr.Jobe has been using the wide range of activities including many different games which everyone likes. My most favourite is the snakes and ladders game and the probability fair but I don't have a least favourite.
3)I definitely do not feel challenged in this course. I think this is not challenging because he uses ways easily to show different things. I think this class is doing fine.

  10. I have learned a whole new subject in math this year which is probability, last year they didn’t teach it at all so I was sort of new to the subject. Every concept that we learned was new to me so I found it a bit difficult at the beginning but as the unit went on I felt more and more comfortable.

Mr Jobe has used a wide range of activities in both units, sometimes its games other times it’s worksheets etc. This makes it more fun because you don’t know what to expect in each lesson so you don’t always feel down when you know you have maths next.

I don’t really feel challenged and I don’t feel like it’s too easy so I think this class is a good for my learning. Especially in the algebra unit because I have done algebra a lot over the years so basically it’s just like a recap of the skills i’ve learnt but sometimes (like today) we did a harder question than normal. I think some improvements could be made like in my opinion I like textbook work but that might not apply to other people.

  11. 1) I've learned new things since the beginning of the year such as factorisation in algebra
    2) Yes, the instructor uses a wide range of activities to both investigate and demonstrate knowledge. My favourite activity is when we do the equation challenge at the beginning of the class.
    3) No, because I have already learned most things last year. Maybe to use the book we have borrowed and do problems about the things we are learning about.

  12. 1. Yes of course I learned some thing new this term we had the probability unit and we are in the middle of our algebra unit. In this class Mr. Jobe has taught us in a fun way. Sometimes I am not in the mood of doing math but that is not Mr. Jobe's fault. I have learned more about these topics and most importantly new things about these topics.
    2. Certainty he uses many activities and used many examples using students as volunteers which makes it funny. I also liked doing the snakes and ladders game and at the same time I learned a lot of algebra.
    3. I do feel challenged but that only helps me learn.

  13. 1) Since the beginning of the year, I have learned lots of new things especially in the probability unit where I learned how to use tree diagrams and sample spaces to figure out the probability of something.
    2) I think that he does and we play a wide range of games activities in class which help me learn and understand some areas of the topic more. My favourite activity was the probability fair and my least was snakes and ladders.
    3) I feel challenged in some areas of math and not in other areas in which I am more confident in than other units. I think that I could improve if we did some more problems which is in groups so that other people could work together to help.

  14. 1. i've learned how to calculate probability and solve algebraic expressions. Both these concepts are new to me.

2.Yes, the instructor does use different activities to help us learn about new topics or to review already learned subjects. My favourite activity so far has been the the probability fair because i found it was quite an interesting and unique way to learn about probability.

    3. I definitely do feel challenged in this course, the activities that are given are quite challenging and helpful.

  15. Yes I have, I have learned how to do factorising in Algebra and I have also learned how to use tree diagrams and also to use math to figure out the probability of something happening. I have also improved a lot of my concepts, especially for algebra. I am now fully capable of expanding, at the beginning I wasn't that good.

The instructor does use a wide range of activities to help us lear, like snakes and ladders, or this website, also he asks people to come up to the board and answer a question to help boost our understanding. My favourite activity is the snakes and ladders, as it is a really fun way to learn and remember strategies for quick learning. My least favourite activity is actually nothing I like everything we do, even the sit down be quiet and work activities.

Yes at times I feel challenged, but sometimes I do know what I am doing, as I have been doing it for a very long time. I am being challenged because the instructor gives us challenging questions and really tries to test our skills. The only reason I don't get challenged at times is because like I said before I have done some of this before. We could maybe do more challenging questions, and do more questions and lear new ways of doing things quickly, we could also do more games and activities.

  16. 1) Have you learned anything new since beginning the year? If so, what concepts have been new? If not, have you improved in your understanding of these concepts?

I have learned how to figure out the answer if there is a sum with a x after the equal sign. I have also learned to make sample paces when finding the probability. I have also improved my understanding of algebra through harder questions.

    2) Does the instructor use a wide range of activities to both investigate topics and demonstrate knowledge? What have been your favourite and least favourite activities?

Mr. Jobe mainly writes challenging questions on the board for us to solve but sometimes he incorporates the topic we are trying to learn in class with a popular eg. snakes and ladders. My favourite activity was when the whole grade did the probability fair it was fun to go in classrooms and experience the work of others.

    3) Do you feel challenged in this course? If so, how are you being challenged? If not, why do you think that is? What improvements could be made in class to better challenge you or aid your understanding?

I do feel challenged by the hard questions on the board but sometimes it could be too hard and I would have to wait for someone to write the next step on the board.

  17. 1) I have learned so much this half-term, and we haven't even completed 2 units yet! During the Probability unit, I learned how to use a tree diagrams and sample space for listing the possible outcomes. During the start of the algebra unit, we revised concepts that we learned last year and, started new and challenging concepts. I started off weak at many new concepts but after Mr.Jobe taught me, I got better at them.
    2) Yes, Mr.Jobe uses different interacting activities and methods to investigate and teach us new concepts. My favorite activity was the Math Probability Fair, and the different games we played during the Probability unit. I don’t enjoy the snakes and ladders as much because it can get a bit boring.
    3) Yes, Mr.Jobe does challenge us after we understand the concept fully. I do face challenging problems when Mr.Jobe puts the Exit ticket and extension problems on the board, I think that it is quite helpful.

  18. 1.Yes, from the start of the year I have learned a lot in algebra and probability. The concept of only learning terms in english is hard for me because in my old school we had math only in german. yes I have improved on my algebra.
2.I think the instructor uses fun and also very interactive learning methods which I like and also enjoy learning with.
    3. In math I do feel challenged and I think that this is the wright level for me because I should have some problems in an area and in others I could be doing very well. I think that the class is a good learning environment and I really feel that this class makes me better
